I feel distressed when writing, a craft, a calling and a skill is dissed. I resent people who ask me how they can break into writing fast, since they aren’t doing so well in their current job. It takes time to break into writing – just as it does in any field. I feel pride in my calling, writing, communicating something that makes sense, on some sort of level, to people, whether it’s a global group of people, a local segment of my own community, or a million readers of a best-selling book; writers work hard and provide the world with something that cannot be replaced – a collective voice.
